Renewable Energy Newton Module – let’s explore electricity generation

This S1-S2 module is available in all Newton Rooms in term 1 of the new academic year.

Pupils build a ball track and learn about energy transfer as the ball moves down the track and collides with a model vehicle that they have designed and built. The next step is to generate electricity from movement using three practical activities: electromagnetic induction, a mini hydroelectric plant, and a wind turbine.

This is a full day module for pupils in S1 and S2.

Peatlands and Climate Change - a mini Newton Module

We are offering this outdoor session to all S1s across Highland this academic term, since lock-down restrictions have eased. This fascinating activity helps pupils to recognise and appreciate our local peatlands.

Pupils learn about the carbon cycle and how carbon capture in peatlands is critical to addressing climate change. They also carry out plant identification activities looking at seven plants that thrive in our local peatlands.

The session will help pupils recognise these plants when they go out for a walk and appreciate just how special our local environment is.
